The Magic Gang have today dished out a tasty treat in the form of a new single. ‘How Can I Compete’ is the first tune the Brighton-based indie-rockers have released in 2017, following on from EPs ‘The Magic Gang EP’ & ‘The Second EP from’, both released in 2016 respectively.
Both of their EPs were preceded by singles that were later included on the records, including the heartfelt ‘Jasmine’ (‘The Magic Gang EP’) and sing-a-longer ‘All This Way’ (‘The Second EP from’). These tracks were standout crowd favourites when I saw the guys supporting Hinds at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town, and the release of a new single is likely to be a sign of things to come. In fact, in an interview with NME (from 2015), they revealed that they’d already written over 50 songs, and said that “If there’s one annoying thing about being in a band – well, our band – it’s that we’ve got so many songs”. Seems like we could be in for a deluxe-deluxe-deluxe debut album!
Their new track has got a funky feel to it, and lead singer Jack Kaye’s vocals have that familiar feel to them that just make you think these guys will go far.
Fun fact: Bassist Gus Taylor was once a contestant on CBBC gameshow ‘Raven’.
